anything tied around the neck is dangerous - earlier in the war we would wear our pistol lanyard around the neck... until it was recognised that this can be grabbed in close combat and used to strangle the wearer - then we moved the lanyard to the right shoulder !
Could only cut the flow of blood then to the hand which held the pistol!
